Abstract All the cards seem to be stacked against belief in immortality. Nonetheless, resources of particular religious traditions may avail where generic philosophical solutions fall short. With attention boredom and narcissism critiques, intimations deathlessness Śāntideva's radical altruism, recent Christian debates on soul intermediate state, I propose two criteria for a coherent religion-specific immortality: (1) is supported by fully realized tradition, (2) satisfies demand self-transcendence as well self-preservation. Where self-preservation are kept balance, whole idea rests upon lattice-work immortality fitting object belief. Moreover, such compatible with considerable speculative freedom concerning matter spirit, body soul, personal identity over time.
